FAQs

KLAPiT is an assembly of two Steel Tapes and a Super Strong NED Magnet. Although the two Steel Tapes are identical and can be used interchangeably, the steel tape on the wall is referred to as “Alpha Steel Tape” and the steel tape on the product is referred to as “Beta Steel Tape”. Each of the two steel tapes use one of the strongest VHB adhesives with a liner. In order to attach your product to the wall you have to remove the liner and stick Alpha steel tape to the wall. Similarly, you have to attach the Beta steel tape to the product. Thereafter, NED magnet is attached to the wall and the product is “Klapped” to the wall. Please refer to our blog on “how to hang a picture frame” for further details or watch the video.

KLAPiT can be used on various surfaces such as Walls, Gypsum, Glass, Metal and Tiles. It is important to understand that the surface should be hard and flat so the adhesive is equally spread. Also, surfaces such as wallpaper weakly attach to the walls and can tear under excessive pressure due to the weight of the object. Please do not use KLAPiT on curvy surfaces such as raw wood and bouncy surfaces. Also read the blog Common errors and issues while using KLAPiT

Each KLAPiT can hold up to 500g. This means that products such as 5X7 or 6X4 photo frames or thin wooden, acrylic or metal plates of size A5 or A4 and weighing less than 500g, can easily be hung using a single KLAPiT. However, to hang larger or thicker objects, we recommend using 2 KLAPiTs, one on the top edge and the other on the bottom edge for every 1Kg weight. This will reduce torque on a single point of adhesion, keeping your product straight and vertical against the wall.

The Steel Tapes attach firmly to the surface of a wall and of a product. These surfaces should be strong enough not to peel or tear. Therefore, we do not recommend using KLAPiT directly on wallpapers. However, we recommend a method to hang products without drilling holes in your walls, which have a wallpaper. The Steel Tapes should only be applied on hard and flat surfaces which are free from holes. This will ensure maximum adhesion and, hence, maximum safety of your product.

NED is extremely strong, and it will be difficult for you to simply pull the product from the wall. Excessive pull force can damage your product, or it can disengage any of the Steel Tapes from their surfaces. The best way to detach a product from the wall will be to slide it either in the upward or the downward direction.

If the product is lighter than 500g, you can fix the Beta Steel Tape at the horizontal center of either the top edge or the middle of the product. The Alpha Steel Tape is then applied to the wall at a place where the product is expected to be suspended. Please also see our blog on hanging a picture frame.

If the product is between 500g and 1Kg, you can fix two Beta Steel Tapes at the horizontal centers, one on the top edge and second on the bottom edge of the product. The corresponding Alpha Steel Tapes are then applied at the respective places on the wall.

If the product is between 1Kg and 2Kg it is advisable to apply 4 Beta Steel Tapes, one at each corner of the product, and the Beta Steel Tapes at the corresponding places on the wall. This will create symmetry and minimize chances of error in suspension.

The Alpha Steel Tape bonds firmly to the surface of the wall. It can be detached from the wall but should not be used again. It is suggested that you retain the Alpha Steel Tape on the wall and use it for suspending an alternate product.

NED is a permanent magnet and, if used carefully, can be used forever. However, remember that magnets are brittle and can break on a strong and sudden impact. All the parts of a broken magnet retain magnetic properties. If broken, please remove the magnet and store it in a safe place.

The magnetic field transmitted through the steel tapes is too weak to cause any damage to any electronic gadget. Therefore, KLAPiT is safe to be used near any electronic equipment. It is advisable to keep an isolated NED away from electronic equipment.

For best results:

  1. Always clean both the surfaces before applying Alpha and Beta Steel Tapes.
  2. Press Alpha and Beta firmly pressing them by both thumbs simultaneously and by your palm. Do this repeatedly for a couple of times.
  3. Although Alpha and Beta can be used after 60 minutes of their application, you will get the best results if you start using them 72 hours after their installation. This is particularly recommended for hanging Shelves, Speakers, Clocks, etc.
  4. Always remove product from the wall by sliding it.
  5. After hanging your product, if you may find that the product is slanting. This, in particular happens when you are using only one KLAPiT at the top edge or when you are using two KLAPiTs one on each of the side edges. In such cases, slide the product to remove and then add one more KLAPiT at the bottom edge of the product to make it straight.

We are sorry but you cannot directly hang a floating shelf using KLAPiT. In order to understand some technical details about the same, you may want to read further.

In order to hang any object that is projecting out from the wall, you need a very high peel-off strength of the adhesive. This is because the further away is the center of gravity of an object, higher will be the torque which is responsible for the peel-off.

Also, the surface of the wall needs to have an equivalent strength to bear the high force of the torque generated by a projected object. Floating shelves have a very little surface area attached to the wall and a very high projected surface. This puts a very high pressure on the wall at the point of contact between the wall and the shelf. Till date there is no adhesive available that can bear such high pressure. Also, most of the wall surfaces cannot bear so much pressure at the point of contact. Therefore, the suspension system provided with the floating shelves is the best option to hang them,

Even when a magnet is damaged, each of its broken components, irrespective of its size, retains the magnetic power. Some of these components may be very tiny. Such tiny components may attach to any other ferrous products and can also accidentally be consumed by humans or animals at home. Therefore, it is better to collect all the broken components of the magnet by swiftly browsing the larger component or a piece of iron over the place where the magnet broke. Then demagnetise the magnet by exposing it to a high temperature. For NED magnet, you will have to heat it to a temperature of more than 230°C or 446°F to completely demagnetize it. Once the magnetic components have been demagnetised, these can be disposed off with other broken metal pieces.

You can demagnetise a magnet in various ways. The simplest way to do it at home is by exposing it to a temperature of more than 80°C or 176°F for normal magnets. However, if you are using a stronger magnet such as NED Magnet, you will have to heat it to a temperature of over 230°C or 446°F. Once the NED magnet is demagnetised by heating, it cannot be easily magnetised again.

Generally, for hanging objects of less than 1Kg you will need 2 pcs of KLAPiTs. However, projected objects such as speakers put an extra pressure on the adhesive. Also, it is more prone to accidental pull while cleaning or due to the hanging wire. Therefore, it is recommended that you should use 1 or 2 additional KLAPiTs to keep it sturdy.
